Le service assure la production de plus d’une quinzaine d’espèces végétales différentes pour les différentes équipes de recherche du laboratoire. Il s’agit d’espèces modèles comme Arabidopsis thaliana, Medicago truncatula, Nicotiana benthamiana (Tabac), Mimosa Pudica, Dioscorea Sansibarensis (Igname), mais aussi des espèces d’intérêts commerciales comme la tomate, le chou, le pois, le blé, le pétunia. Les plantes produites sont amenées à des stades végétatifs déterminés tout en veillant au respect des conditions sanitaires et réglementaires.
Chaque année le service produit ainsi les semences de 4 à 5000 plantes. Pour les expérimentations des équipes de recherche, ce sont plus de 15000 plantules qui sont produites, la moitié étant des plantes de Nicotiana benthamiana utilisées ensuite pour des agro-infiltrations.
TECHNIQUES
Pour ces productions le service intervient principalement dans les deux serres du LIPME où il assure la gestion climatique et la maintenance de premier niveau. Dans la serre de confinement S2, le service s’occupe de la formation des nouveaux entrants, de la traçabilité des entrées et sorties de plante, ainsi que de la destruction de ces déchets (solide, effluent).
Dans ces espaces le service assure la production des différentes plantes en favorisant une démarche de Protection Biologique intégrée. Cette démarche passe notamment par la prophylaxie, des vides sanitaires, la définition des objectifs de production en partenariat avec les équipes demandeuses, l’observation, le suivi sanitaire des plantes et l’utilisation de la lutte biologique de façon prioritaire.
La production de ces plantes passe par l'utilisation de techniques et pratiques horticoles qui vont du semis jusqu'à la récolte de graines, incluent des croisements, du bouturage, des autofécondations.
Le service assure la gestion et l’organisation des espaces de cultures dans les serres et les 27 chambres de cultures du laboratoire.
Le service assure des mesures de contrôle d’intensité et de spectre lumineux à la demande dans les différents espaces. Il accompagne aussi les équipes lors de tests d’expérimentation pour accompagner le remplacement de luminaire par des éclairages LED.
